Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening incident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The concerning event happened on the third lap when marshals were seen on the track as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Shortly afterward, the team's competitor Lawson radioed to his race engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you witness that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I genuinely couldn't process what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals sprinting across the track"

"I nearly hit one of them, frankly, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Obviously there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We fail to grasp how on a ongoing race track safety personnel can be authorized to just dash across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some form of reasoning, but this absolutely cannot recur"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is thoroughly reviewing the events

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was advised that debris was present on the track at the critical section of that bend" declared the governing body

"On lap three, marshals were informed and made ready to enter the track and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the directives to deploy personnel were rescinded and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened subsequent to that time"
