On November 19, 1942, in the Bronx, New York, Calvin Klein was born. He is a fashion designer. He grew up in the first- and second-generation immigrant-populated middle-class Jewish neighbourhood of the borough’s Mosholu Parkway. Klein was always interested in art and fashion; he would frequently spend hours sketching women in dresses and suits. After completing his studies at the High School of Design and Art, Klein enrolled at Manhattan’s renowned Fashion Technology Institute to pursue a career in clothes design. In 1968, Calvin was inspired to launch his own company by the casual and modern apparel worn by New York’s young. He hired a local seamstress to produce a couple gowns and jackets with some financial assistance from his boyhood buddy Barry Schwartz.
